Lot Details

"Miss Mao No. 1" (2006) is a kitsch-laden and highly ironic painted fiberglass sculpture that conflates a Classical female torso with a Disney-like version of a smiling Chairman Mao, by notorious Chinese duo the Gao Brothers (Shandong, China, b. 1956, and 1962, respectively). The Brothers here create a grotesque version of art as propaganda and explore the concept of what is perfection in the East versus the West, and what happens when the two collide. The Gao Brothers have created Miss Mao sculptures in gold, red, blue and white. This is the first sculpture in white to come to international Auction, measuring 19.7 x 11.81 x 9.8 inches (50 x 30 x 24.9 cm). This is edition of 12 and excellent condition.
