"Ice Buddha No. 1" (2006) is a quietly powerful image by Tibetan artist Gade (Lhasa, b. 1971), one of the top emerging artists of his region and time. This photograph is edition 6 of 12, measures 31.50 x 19.70 inches (80 x 50 cm) is unframed in excellent condition. Gade made this crystal clear ice sculpture of Buddha from water he gathered from the Kyi Chu River in Lhasa, the same river the sculpture is placed in to here as it gleams and slowly melts in the Tibetan sun. Gade states that this performance piece is like the cycle of life - the water comes from and returns to the same source.
