Lot Details

Artwork measures 59.05 x 59.05 inches (150 x 150 cm).

Bold, expressive strokes of red, black, and ocher characterize this monumental work by Flore Sigrist. Executed in 1999, when the artist was fourteen years old, "L'astrolabe en Antarctique" typifies Sigrist's preternatural command of the painterly medium and her instinctually dynamic use of color.

Flore Sigrist (b. 1985) is a contemporary Franco-Swiss painter who, though self-taught, came to national attention in France at the age of seven for her large-scale works of abstract expressionism. Sigrist’s work has been exhibited at Galerie Proarta, Zurich, Switzerland (2007, 2010, 2012); the Château de Lichtenberg, France (2006); the Consulat Général de Suisse, Strasbourg, France (2005-06); Galerie Boyrié, Paris, France (2001); Talisman Gallery, London, England (2000); Gallery One, Tokyo, Japan (2000); the Pavillon Joséphine, Strasbourg, France (1993); and Galerie Nicole Buck, Strasbourg, France (1993).
