Lot Details

A rarely available example of modern master Fernand Léger's vibrant, large-scale tapestries made in collaboration with the famed Tapissrie d'Aubusson Pinton studio, "São Paulo" (1953) depicts the artist's iconic figures dancing among bold shapes of red, orange, blue, yellow, green, and black. This auction is a unique opportunity to acquire a major work by Léger, the image of which was recently chosen by the World Cup to market the games, and is being featured by the World Cup in a limited edition poster. Created by Léger during his travels in Brazil in 1952-53, "São Paulo" is an affectionate portrait of Brazilians, illustrating the culture of the lively São Paulo metropolis.
