This work is unframed and in excellent condition.

The vision of a young woman, her back pressed against steamed glass makes up the fantasy-based narrative of "Steam No. 2", a realist oil painting by emerging female Chinese artist Feng Wei. This work encapsulates Feng's focus on the female nude as subject in her already iconic 'Steam' series of oil paintings, where the identity of the figure is partially or totally obscured in some type of sexually charged manner. In turn the viewer is kept at a distance from this alluring nude figure by the barrier of steam and of glass, both metaphors for Feng's belief that the desire for visual beauty is innate in human nature. Daily occurrences lead to lingering fantasies-- in an instant we perceive an alluring figure at a dimly lit dance floor, through a glass window of a passing train, in a bathhouse full of steam. How accurate are these perceptions? Feng Wei's paintings are based on this subtext and the notion that a brief glimpse of a person, combined with one's own imagination, can create the false illusions of beauty and sexuality where none exist.

The artist was born in China in 1985 and received his formal training in 2005 when he graduated from the Fine Arts School affiliated to China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, China and again with a degree received in 2010from the oil painting department of Academy of Art & Design, Tsinghua University (BA), Beijing, China. In 2010 the artist had two important Museum and Gallery solo exhibitions: "Feng Wei’s Art", Today Art Museum, Beijing, China and "The Art World of Feng Wei", Exceptional Art Gallery, Beijing, China. The artist lives and works in Beijing China.
