Lot Details

For her 2002 ‘Revenge Series’, photographer Ellen von Unwerth presents a perverse, erotic tale of 3 young women on a surprisingly seductive visit to a Baroness’ estate. Told in vivid black and white, the story unfolds through von Unwerth’s characteristic combination of sexuality, femininity, and danger. Making scenes of bondage, featuring provocatively dressed models in chains and masks, seem like high fashion; von Unwerth expresses a contemporary allure of a sadistic lifestyle.

This work comes framed, with framed dimensions measuring 20.25 x 26.5 inches.

Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Ellen von Unwerth (b.1954) started her career as a fashion model before turning her attentions behind the camera. As a photographer and director, von Unwerth focuses on erotic themes featuring models, musicians, and movie stars, creating playfully provocative images that have made her one of the most sought after fashion photographers today. Since her breakthrough photographic campaign with Claudia Schiffer for Guess? Jeans, von Unwerth has produced images for numerous major fashion designers, publications, and for the album covers of such artists as Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, and Rihanna. Recent solo exhibitions of her work have been held at Fahey/Klein Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2011); Contributed Studio for the Arts, Berlin, Germany (2011); Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft, Dusseldorf, Germany (2010); Staley-Wise Gallery, New York, NY (2009); and Galerie Wouter van Leeuwen, Amsterdam, Netherlands (2009).
