As one of the most popular still life artists of the 20th century, Donald Sultan has reinvented the genre for a contemporary audience. Sultan (b. 1951, Asheville, North Carolina) received his BFA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. He moved to New York in 1975 and rose to prominence in the 1980s as a painter and draftsman of subjects such as flowers and lemons. His body of work, composed of paintings, prints and sculptures, is both voluminous and varied.

Sultan’s works are included in many prestigious collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Australian National Gallery, and the Walker Art Center. He currently lives and works in New York.
