Lot Details

Donald Roller Wilson's sense of humor is wonderfully demonstrated in this oil on wood portrayal of a chimpanzee, who is dressed and posed to resemble a 16th century Dutch painting, but with a surprise crown of olives that adorn the chimp's head. Evoking such skilled masters as Jan van Eyck, Wilson applies similar attention to detail and precision to his chimp portrait.

This work comes framed, measuring 18 x 22 inches.

Pop-artist Donald Roller Wilson’s (b.1938) flamboyant imagination is conveyed in each of his impeccably executed and vibrant compositions. Wilson earned his BA and MFA from Kansas State University, Wichita, Kansas. Wilson’s work has received rave reviews from celebrity collectors, galleries and museums. His pieces have been exhibited at The Chicago Art Institute, Chicago, IL; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY; and have been the subject of solo shows at Meyer Gallery, Santa Fe, NM (2007); Williamsburg Art & Historical Center, Brooklyn, NY (1999); and Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA (1997).
