Mounted, 11 x 14 inches (27.9 x 35.6 cm).

Chinese conceptual artist DoDo Jin Ming (b. 1955) captures the chaos and power of nature in almost abstract terms, photographing masses of sunflowers and lotuses dying, the pyramids and sand dunes of Egypt, and the turbulent waves off the coast of Hong Kong, Nova Scotia, and Maine in her "Seascapes" series. Jin Ming, who now lives in New York, was born in Beijing and came of age during the Cultural Revolution in China. She studied to be a concert violinist and taught violin for a while in Hong Kong before taking up photography in 1988. Jin Ming's first solo exhibition in the United States was at Laurence Miller Gallery, New York in 1996. In addition to numerous shows as Laurence Miller, Jin Ming's solo exhibitions include Y Gallery, Hong Kong (1991); Attention Art Gallery, Hong Kong (1994, 1996); The Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong (1996); Verve Gallery, Santa Fe, NM (2004); and Michael Hoppen Contemporary (2005).
