Lot Details

"Lick the Dust" is a bold silver gelatin photograph by celebrated contemporary photographer David Seltzer, who pushes the rules of standard photography by altering the medium and capturing an ironic narrative of his subjects with the energy and influence of his generation. This work measures 30 x 24 inches (76.2 x 61 cm), is an edition 1 of 5 and comes unframed in excellent condition.

David Seltzer is renowned for his innovative large black and white photos with dynamic compositions, often layering and manipulating his photos with collage or scratching and resurfacing the image. He often agitates the negatives of his photos and encrypts messages. Seltzer's compositions are often autobiographical in nature and evoke a sense of voyeurism and eroticism with a touch of humor. Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, the artist has exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions at Yancy Richardson in New York, the Parrish Art Museum in New York, the New York Academy of the Arts, Arco in Madrid, The Grand Palais in Paris, the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, among many others.
