Lot Details

Sheet size: 15 x 20 inches (38.1 x 50.8 cm.)

David Hockney (British, b.1937) is a highly independent artist who has a reputation for creating genuinely original and powerful images that sometimes shock, but never dull the viewer's sensibilities. He has an innate ability to anticipate popular opinion, while always allowing himself to be accepting of leading-edge ideas.

Much of Hockney's work reflects the Southern California lifestyle through elements of contemporary life such as swimming pools, undulating bodies and boldly articulated forms. His superb draftsmanship is apparent in his drawings, illustrations and prints.

Hockney has held major retrospective exhibitions at the Royal College of Art in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He currently lives and works in California.
