Lot Details

"At Work" (2009-08) is one of the most celebratory self-portrait oil paintings by Dang Xuan Hoa (Vietnam, b. 1959), an internationally, critically acclaimed South-East Asian artist. This dynamic self-portrait of the artist with palette and brush in hand facing a black canvas is a major and exciting example of his hyper-stylized, figurative paintings that possess a sense of traditional Vietnamese painting with urban art. The conflation of brilliant colors here with solid black outlines and cubist inspired rendering of anatomy and facial features defines the oeuvre of the artist. "At Work" is a rare self-portrait and painted in sublime yet vibrant colors that make this one of the most desirable paintings by Dang Xuan Hoa on the secondary market at present. This work measures 25.25 x 25.25 inches (65 cm x 65 cm) and is in perfect condition.

Dang Xuan Hoa was born in 1959 in Nam Dinh province, Vietnam and graduated from Hanoi College of Fine Arts in 1983.
