"Purity-The dream is dead" (2007) is a highly detailed sculpture of a pregnant woman cast in sterling silver with dark patina by world famous Contemporary artist Damien Hirst (British, b.1965). This work measures 23.6 x 5.1 x 11.2 inches (60 x 13 x 28.5 cm), is an edition of 25 and in excellent condition. Part of the artist's "The Dream is Dead" series, this surreal scientifically rendered figure, depicts the flesh peeled back to reveal the inner muscle, bone, and fetal structure of the woman. Hirst has said that "Silver is one of the elements, one of the building blocks of our material world. It is a symbol of value and preciousness loaded with association even before you make it into anything...Silver used to be mined in Combe Martin where I live. It's dreamy, otherworldly, but also sensuous and sexy..."
