Lot Details

This set of five unique, hand-blown glass sea-form pieces demonstrate glass master Dale Chihuly's brilliant use of the color and texture that he manipulates to transform the smooth and translucent glass into underwater objects and creatures. Typical of Chihuly, only the large piece is signed. All pieces are in excellent condition.

Renowned American glass artist, Dale Chihuly (b.1941) creates intensely colorful blown-glass sculptures. Chihuly's artistic career working with glass started in 1968, when he received a Fulbright Fellowship, after graduating from the University of Washington, and went to work at the Venini glass factory in Venice. From there, Chihuly co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington in 1971. His works are included in over 200 museum collections throughout the world and have recently been exhibited at Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville, TN; Naples Museum of Art, Naples, FL; and the Musée Magnelli, musée de la céramique, Vallauris, France.
