CRASH (John Matos, American, b. 1961) is regarded as one of the most influential and successful members of the Graffiti Art movement. He began tagging at the age of 13, and his early murals on the sides of buildings and subway cars inspired a generation of painters. He later moved on to more complex works on canvas, often incorporating carefully selected images from popular culture. In addition to being featured in MOCA’s "Art in the Streets" exhibition in 2011, his work has been exhibited at Addict Galerie, Paris, France; The Esplanade, Singapore; Opera Gallery, London, England; and Toy Tokyo Underground, New York, NY, among others. In 2013, CRASH created a large public mural on the iconic Bowery and Houston Wall in New York.
