Lot Details

Depicting a sea of rooftops, this dynamic cityscape typifies Chuck Connelly’s vivid use of color and expressionistic style. With his thick brushstrokes and layers of paint, Connelly imbues the scene with energy, bringing three dimensional life to a two dimensional work.

Infusing his work with allegorical narratives and an expressionistic style, contemporary American artist Chuck Connelly (b. 1955) works in both figurative and abstractive genres, often combining the two in dynamically charged compositions. With his innovative and bold use of paint, Connelly manipulates color to suit the emotional turmoil captured within his canvases. Never one to follow popular styles or trends, he was the subject of the 2008 award winning documentary “The Art of Failure” directed by Jeff Stimmel, which investigates the life of an uncompromising artist in today’s market. The artist has held shows at galleries and museums the world over including the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, IN; Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans, LA; and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico.
