All framing materials used are of archival quality and are 100% acid free including U.V. protective plexi-glas.

Chuck Close has worked as a master printer, printmaker and photographer for more than thirty years. In all of his chosen media, Close has reformed and re-framed the genre of portraiture. This intimate close-up of His Holiness the Dalai Lama conveys the unique warmth, humor and candor for which he is known and loved around the world.

Close is internationally celebrated for his systematic straight faced portraits which he began producing in the late 1960s. Always-innovative, Chuck Close (B. 1940, Monroe, WA) is unafraid to experiment with both subject and medium. He is best known for his large scale photo-realist portraits composed of tiny airbrush bursts, thumbprints, or looping multi-color brushstrokes. Close implements a variety of mediums to repeatedly capture his personality and that of others in self-portraits and portraits. His subjects are usually his family and friends, including artists such as Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg. Close’s work forces the viewer to pay attention to not only the forms themselves, but also their very process of creation. Close references the daguerreotypes of nineteenth century portraiture, where his subjects are both humanized, and perversely, reduced to ethereal shapes, forms, and light.
