This signed photograph by acclaimed contemporary artist Christopher Wool portrays a gritty bathroom scene in West Texas, the region (encompassing the town of Marfa) that has played an important part in Wool's creative life, as well as the lives of prominent artists and writers such as Donald Judd, Charline Von Heyl, Deborah Eisenberg, and Wallace Shawn. With its brutal realism and disorienting composition, "Untitled (West Texas)" shows Wool engaging with a harsher aspect of the Marfa area.

Christopher Wool (b. 1955, Chicago, IL) is a contemporary American artist who specializes in painting, printmaking and photography. Wool often creates tension in his work through stark tonal contrasts, the addition and removal of paint, and articulated gestures. His work focuses on the action involved in creating voids and contrasting them with built up layers of medium. Wool is known for his large-scale works on canvas that incorporate text, as well as for his constant reinvention of his artistic vision. He has been included in group and solo exhibitions the world over, most recently at the Venice Biennale; the Simon Lee Gallery, London, England; and the Gagosian Gallery, London, England.
