Christopher Wool (B. 1955, Chicago, IL ) is a contemporary American artist who specializes in painting, printmaking and photography. He often tries to create tension in his work through stark tonal contrasts, the addition and removal of paint, and articulated gestures. His work focuses on the action involved in creating voids and contrasting them with built up layers of medium. Wool is known for his large works incorporating text on canvas, as well as for his constant reinvention of his artistic vision. He has been included in a variety of group and solo exhibitions the world over, most recently Biennale di Venezia (Venice, Italy), Simon Lee Gallery (London, United Kingdom), and Gagosian Gallery (London, United Kingdom).
