Lot Details

This playful, richly detailed collaged drawing was a study for Christo and Jeanne-Claude's beloved 2005 project "The Gates," which was installed in New York City's Central Park. "The Gates" consisted of 7,503 vinyl gates installed along 23 miles of pathways through Central Park, a concept that took the artists 26 years to realize. Over the course of 16 days, "The Gates" were enjoyed by over four million people. Done in 1998, this work features a photograph of Central Park that has been enhanced by oil pastels, graphite, colored pencil and painted acrylic. The billowing panels of fabric create the feeling of tranquility and contemplation that the viewer would experience while walking through the gates. This study is further enhanced by inscriptions which describe the size of the supports and panels.

This collage is framed in a Plexi box as specified by the artists.
