Lot Details

The sculptural version of this piece is currently on view in an exhibition entitled "Sinister Pop" at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City until March 31st, 2013.

Christo made several wrapped objects on wheels including "Package on Handtruck," 1973 in the collection of the Whitney Museum. This is an original print of the sculpture, with a fabric collage and string wrapping the object. Christo's lithographic drawing shows his amazing ability to convey the kinetic energy of a moving object and brought to an abrupt halt. Printed by the famous lithography atelier Landfall Press.

Christo is an environmental installation artist. He is known worldwide for "wrapping" buildings and bridges, and creating a massive "Running Fence" 40 kilometers long through rural areas of California. The artist creates prints of his instillation art to raise money for further artworks, but makes no other permanent works of art. Christo's work brings into question the very concept of permanence in art.
