Lot Details

Christine Seiterle was born in 1969, in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, and has studied Design, Painting and Drawing in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Since 1990, she has worked as a painter and an illustrator of books. Christine currently lives between Switzerland and Paris and she has furthered her education in Norway, Italy, Canada and New York City.

Christine’s paintings feature everyday figures. She constantly sketches and draws people, resting or moving, in a natural or built environment. Despite the prosaic settings, these paintings are haunting and atmospheric. Behind these everyday figures, thoughts, memories, hopes, dreams and imaginations positively shimmer. Her paintings are multilayered and ambiguous.

These apparently everyday subjects, groups of people crossing a bridge, or walking towards a museum, are imbued with a spiritual quality. Christine’s original use of perspective allows the viewer to observe ordinary scenes from extraordinary angles. This, and the superb use of light, gives the work a dream-like quality. Her work is very widely exhibited internationally.
