Lot Details

"Hideholic" (2009) is a dynamic and celebratory large-scale surreal acrylic painting by important emerging Contemporary Korean female artist Choi Yuhee, that brilliantly encapsulates the artist's ongoing exploration of the human conscious and subconscious states. This painting measures 51.3 x 63.86 inches, is unframed and in excellent condition. Interconnecting, wave-like patterns of geometric and organic shapes in brilliant, energized colors undulate and overtake the surface of the canvas, resulting in a festive, psychedelic wonderland. Influence from the works of American artists Fred Tomaselli and Philip Taffe, Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, British Op-Art artist Bridget Riley, as well as traditional religious and cultural influences from Choi's native Korea are all felt in the artist's oeuvre.

Choi Yuhee received her BFA from Hyupsung University and her MFA from Sungshin Women's University. The artist has participated in solo and group exhibitions throughout Korea, including Gana Art Center, Kwanhoon projects, Insa Art Center, and special exhibitions "The 45th Anniversary Sungshin Women's University," Insa Art Center, in Seoul, Bridge Art Fair in New York, among others.
