Lot Details

“In front of an empty house ” (2011) is a dynamic large-scale painting by exciting emerging Korean Contemporary artist, Choi Kyungsun (Korea, b. 1972). This surreal work transports the viewer into an ephemeral realm by intentionally confusing the space and the perceived stability of the dream-scape setting, where aspects of the "real world" reverberate off of irresolute surroundings, with children running off into the distance, playing "in front of the empty house." As is archetypal of Choi's works, here she creates a sumptuous combination of saturated, vibrant colors denoting a super-natural, other worldly realm. This work measures 55.12 x 63 inches (140 x 160 cm) as unframed and is in excellent condition.

Choi Kyungsun graduated Hongik University College of Fine Arts in 1995, and also the Hongik University in 2000. The artist has had top solo and group exhibitions at the Art Gallery Side, Beijing, China, The T Art Center, Beijing, China and the Dukwon Gallery, South Korea. Choi has been included in multiple group exhibitions throughout South Korea and Asia, including: “2011 CIG Beijing International Art Fair”, China; 2010: "Now Asian Artist Busan Biennale”; 2009: "Youth Festival 2009 Song Zhuang” at the Shang Poh Museum of Art, Beijing, China and "2009 798 Art Biennial", Beijing, China among many others.
