Lot Details

"Family 12" (2012) is an indelible and captivating painting by rising multimedia Contemporary Chinese painter Chen Hongzhi, (b. 1978) who is renown for skilled representational figures of men and women amidst nature. Here the artist paints an animated swine in a cropped close up composition, with drip lines running off the creature's nose. Chen employs a soft pallet of reds and pinks and loose abstracted brushwork that evoke a feeling of haziness and an ephemeral nature, alluding to the repressed innate primal instincts of the human condition. The transparent nature of Chen's paintings are stylistic of the artist's 3-dimensional interactive works which often explore the spiritual connections with man and nature. This piece measures 23.62 x 23.62 inches (60 x 60 cm), and is in excellent condition.

Chen Hongzhi was born in Xianyou, China and graduated from the Fine Arts department at the Fujian Normal University majoring in oil painting. Some of his notable exhibitions have been at the 2005 Shanghai Youth Art Exhibition and winning an excellence award along with the Dragonair Emerging Chinese Artist Award (2005) and a group show at the Shanghai Duolon Museum of Modern Art (2011). His most recent exhibition was “Parallel Worlds: 2012 Chen Hongzhi Asia Exhibition Tour” at the Beijing Foundry Museum of Art. The artist currently lives and works in New York, US.
