Carrie Moyer (b. 1960) is an American artist known for brilliantly colored, semi-abstract paintings whose content resonates with political and art historical references. Moyer received a BFA in Painting from the Pratt Institute, an MA in Graphic Design from the New York Institute of Technology, and an MFA in Painting from Bard College’s Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts. She also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She has exhibited at the New York Public Library, New York, NY (1994); La Mama Galleria, New York, NY (1995); White Columns, New York, NY (1996); Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, New York, NY (1996); Centre National D’Art Contemporain de Grenoble, France (1997); Neuer Aachener Kunstverein, Aachen, Germany (1999); Greene Naftali, New York, NY (1999); SFMOMA Artist Gallery, San Francisco, CA (2003); Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn, NY (2005); PS1/MoMA, Long Island City, NY (2008); and D’Amelio Terras, New York, NY (2011), among many others. Moyer is a member of the College Art Association and a Governor of the Skowhegan School. She is also a prominent writer and queer activist. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
