Lot Details

Bob Carlos Clarke (1950 – 2006) was an Irish photographer, known for his highly stylised erotic imagery. Clarke's work was a celebration -- a dark Marquis de Sade-style celebration, albeit -- of female flesh.

In 1970, Clarke studied graphics at the West Sussex College of Art. Later, he received an MA from the Royal College of Art. Clarke photographed celebrities such as Keith Richards, Dita Von Teese, Marco Pierre White, and Rachel Weisz, many of these were his friends and acquaintances. In March 2006, 55-year-old Clarke, famed for persuading Jerry Hall to straddle a 10-foot alligator - and whose erotic pictures of semi-naked women in Shooting Sex: The Definitive Guide to Undressing Beautiful Strangers had brought him worldwide acclaim. Since his death signed limited edition photographs by the artist have become extremely collectable due to their rare existence.
