Lot Details

This very rare hand signed lithograph by renowned sculptor Bernard Venet is entitled "Combinaison aléatoire de lignes indéterminées" - which literally translates as "random combination of indeterminate lines." It is on Rivoli Ivory paper, hand signed and numbered from the limited edition of only 40.

Bernar Venet is a contemporary French conceptual artist known for his sculptures of curving and intertwining lines. Venet moved to New York n 1966 where he became aligned with the Minimalist movement. His work has been exhibited internationally and can be seen at museums all over the world such as Museum of Modern Art in New York, Musée d'Art et d'Histoire in Switzerland, and Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Most recently, he was selected as the keynote speaker at the International Sculpture Center's annual symposium in New Zealand.

Applying the same abstract forms used in his sculptures, Venet’s interest in printmaking allows for an intimacy with the forms. Working in a significantly smaller scale than that of his massive sculptural works, Venet's prints are a thoughtful reinterpretation given the confines of a two dimensional medium.
