Depicting a busy street scene on a gray day, "Under the El" captures Ben Aronson's typical energy and expressiveness. Replete with cars, machinery, and building facades, this work is a wonderful example of the painterly urban landscapes for which Aronson is known.

Ben Aronson (American, b. October 4th, 1958) is a Contemporary artist, best known for his urban landscape paintings. Though rendered with a high degree of realism, his work is characterized by his gestural, expressive brushstrokes. He is the recipient of many awards, including the St. Botolph Foundation Grant in Painting, a Rhode Island State Council for the Arts Grant, the William P. & Gertrude Schweitzer Painting Prize from the National Academy of Design, the Thomas Fisher Award from American Society of Architectural Perspectivists, and the Childe Hassam Purchase Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, among others.
