Lot Details

"Portrait no. 2" (2012) is a stunning large-scale example of the quietly surreal portraits of young by internationally acclaimed, South-East Asian artist Attasit Pokpong (Thailand, b. 1977). The artist's "Portrait" Series, to which this work belongs, all feature close-up images of beautiful young women against monochrome backgrounds. "Portrait No. 2" is painted in his iconic muted palette, here in moss greens, oranges and reds. The close-up composition , her innocent, sidewards gaze, as well as the color choices with her brilliant red lips the visual focus, invite the viewer to gaze upon her ethereal image at length, as the artists presents her visage as if she has been recalled from a memory or a dream. This painting is new to the secondary market and one of his largest works to date, measuring 70.86 x 70.86 inches (180 x 180 cm) and is in perfect condition.

Attasit Pokpong is considered one of the fastest rising stars of the art scene in South-East Asia and received his Diploma in Art from Rajamonkong Technology Centre, Bangkok, Thailand. Attasit belongs to a new generation of Thai contemporary artists who are making their mark both in Thailand and throughout Asia and the world. In May 2009 Attasit had a major exhibition in Shanghai, and then again in Paris in November 2009. His unique style has attracted considerable international attention, prompting exhibitions in Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France, the U.K., in Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand), Australia and in New York and Los Angeles in 2010. The artist lives and works in Thailand.
