In this softly-focused, lyrical image, Annie Leibovitz depicts members of the White Oak Dance Project, including director Mikhail Baryshnikov and choreographer Mark Morris. Co-founded by Baryshnikov and Morris, the White Oak Dance Project began as an experiment and a way for choreographers to develop new works as well as revisit modern works from the past. The project, which ran from 1990 to 2002, was renowned for its seamless blending of old and new methods of dance, touring the U.S. and performing a variety of shows. The White Oak Dance Project changed the way that modern dance was made, encountered, and perceived.
