In many of her pieces, as in her famous, large-scale silver gelatin photograph "Sea Creature", Anita Dube creates new and fascinating sculptural forms using found materials. Here she creates an fantastic 'sea creature' with four photographs, each showing the open palm of one of her hands covered in eyes. The four hands create a rectilinear format with each hand coming together at center and splaying outwards, as if an odd creature with many eyes and star-fish like tentacles. Through these intricate pieces, the artist explores social and political issues that she faces as an individual, as a woman, and part of India’s population. Dube’s works such as this conceptual photograph are is highly metaphorical and symbolic in nature. Her works often rejects the conventions of the photographic medium and inspires intrigue, interest, and awareness about the social and political unrest in India.

Renowned Indian Contemporary multi-media artist Anita Dube entered the art world as an art historian and critic after studying history and art criticism at the University of Delhi and at M.S. University of Baroda in India. Her first artistic experimentation in the 1980s was inspired by the Indian Radical Painters and Sculptors Association, a group of radical artists who responded to the traditional style of the Baroda School through works that were not only politically and socially conscious, but also deeply personal and expressive.

Dube has exhibited her work internationally at venues including the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki), the Yokohama Triennale, the VII Havana Biennale, Sakshi Gallery (Mumbai), the Stephen Lawrence Gallery (London), and Nature Morte (New Delhi).
