Lot Details

A stunning red glowing sunset, in mint condition. This print numbered 35/40 is an individual from one of the 40 portfolios signed and numbered, which had four unique screenprints in each. The full production of this series was 632 prints - all unique variants in their use of colors, using the same silkscreens. The architects Johnson & Burgee placed 470 of this series production in the Hotel Marquette in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"Warhol's brilliance as a colorist is clearly in evidence in these works. They are highly reductive, unified and overtly abstract...They are also the primary example of how ideas first explored in prints had begun to influence Warhol's paintings." (Feldman & Schellmann, Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne 1962-1987, fourth edition revised, pg. 28)
