Lot Details

Flowers (Black and White) is based on images found in a wallpaper catalogue and "A.S. Barnes, Interpretive Floral Designs." This work illustrates one of two important stylistic shifts Warhol implemented in the 1970s. He began to focus on the still life, integrating line drawing, favoring this style over the his photographic images from the 1960s.

This works is the strongest image from Warhol's Flowers (Black and White) portfolio. He created the works in this series using an overhead projector, transforming commercial illustrations into elegant images with an almost Minimalist aesthetic.
