This hand-colored offset lithograph is the cover illustration for Warhol's iconic mid-century (ca. 1954) portfolio "25 Cats Name(d) Sam and One Blue Pussy," which is numbered 115/190 on the colophon page.

This work is exceptionally dedicated "Merry Christmas/Mr. Dorfsman" in ballpoint pen by Andy Warhol. This work is especially significant because of the special provenance; Lou Dorfsman was an important person in Warhol's pre-Pop career, and played an early role in his ultimate success. Dorfsman was an executive at CBS, Inc. who rose to become Vice President and Creative Director during his 40 year career with the company. In 1951 Mr. Dorfsman gave Warhol one of his first major commissions, illustrating an advertisement he created for CBS Radio Network.

This cover plate is affixed at sheet edges to the original white buckram boards (as issued) of the original Warhol portfolio, with darker time staining, some soiling and other discoloration, a pressure mark top left, a minor 1/8 inch tear at left sheet edge. It is in otherwise good vintage condition, and the dedication in Warhol's hand is bold and impressive.

This historic, uniquely hand dedicated hand colored piece - the cover plate and crown jewel of the entire portfolio- is framed and ready to hang.

Own a very rare piece of pre-Pop Warhol history!
