Lot Details

With energetic, expressive lines and vibrant color palette, this work on paper exemplifies André Butzer’s unique blend of figuration and abstraction.

André Butzer (b. 1973) is a contemporary German painter. His work explores themes of romanticism and how those themes relate to his artistic practice in the contemporary environment. Butzer’s work, whilst heavily influenced by German expressionism and popular culture, is further defined by the development of artificially exaggerated realities. Often characterized as ‘Science-Fiction-Expressionism,’ Butzer’s work represents a highly articulate style that balances somewhere between complete abstraction and figuration. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Galerie Christine Mayer, Munich, Germany; Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin, Germany; Patrick Painter, Santa Monica, CA; Hiromi Yoshii Gallery, Tokyo, Japan; and Metro Pictures Gallery, New York, NY, among others. He lives and works in Rangsdorf, Germany.
