Lot Details

Known for his Pop art abstractions, which frequently focus on the female human form, Allen Jones works in a multitude of mediums to produce unique compositions that retain the essence of his subjects. As is demonstrated in ‘Hats Off’, Allen’s visions are often better realized in three dimensions. Through sculpture, Allen is able to fully manipulate his renderings to strip away not pertinent material and information through cuts and bends, but leaving his representation intelligible.

British artist Allen Jones (b.1937) studied at London’s College of Art and is associated with the rise of British Pop Art. While living in New York in the 60s, he discovered a rich cache of sexual imagery in popular illustrations of the 1940s and 1950s. Eroticism becomes a trademark of his art, in which women figures are playfully stylized. Not only a painter and printmaker, he’s also a sculptor and a designer which have allow him to work in many fields including stage, film and television.
