Lot Details

Delicately rendered in strong tones of black and white, Alison Moffett’s female figure appears frozen in a perpetual state of motion. Void of any spatial signifiers, Moffett’s composition presents open ended questions that allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions about who the figure is, what is pulling her, and in what direction she is headed.

Born in Knoxville, TN, London-based contemporary artist Alison Moffett (b.1979) focuses her large-scale graphite drawings on the investigation of space. Her skillful renderings of figures and architectural objects seem to exist in a realm that is frozen halfway between fantasy and reality. Moffett studied at the University of Tennessee before moving to London, England to receive her MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2004. Remaining in London, Moffett went on to study history and critical thinking at the Architectural Association, earning her MA in 2011. Moffett’s work has been featured in gallery exhibitions throughout Europe and has been the subject of recent solo shows at 1K Project Space, Amsterdam, Netherlands (2009); Galerie Schleicher + Lange, Paris, France (2009); and Laura Bartlett Gallery, London, UK (2005).
