Alfred Wertheimer’s photographs of Elvis Presley are unique visual recorsd of the most exciting and influential performer of our time. Taken 50 years ago, Wertheimer’s photographs document a 21 year-old Elvis at the pivotal moment of his explosive entrance into the cultural landscape. Wertheimer had close access to Elvis throughout the recording and performing process, and was able to capture important public and private moments. Wertheimer has since contributed to the book “Elvis at 21,” had a one-person exhibition in 1997 at Govinda Gallery, and participated in the exhibition “Artist to Icon: Early Photographs of Elvis, Dylan, and the Beatles,” in 2001.
