Lot Details

Here is an uncommon, hand signed and numbered Alex Katz Aquatint and Drypoint etching entitled "Still Life" from one of the most desirable eras - the mid-Seventies. It is from a very limited edition of only 62 (unlike other Katz prints which tend to be from larger editions).

According to Katz himself, this Still Life image was based upon a drawing he had made for a painting called "Supper" created in 1973.

This work has excellent provenance. It was acquired from the Jamison Thomas Gallery in New York in 1987, by the Readers Digest Corporation of America. It has been professionally framed with museum quality materials, as it hung in the corporate offices of Readers Digest in Westchester, NY for years before the company sold off its venerated collection.

In excellent condition; museum quality framing. Co-published by Brooke Alexander, Inc., New York and
Marlborough Graphics, Inc., New York

Another edition of "Still Life" was selected for inclusion in a major print retrospective of Alex Katz' prints at the Brooklyn Museum in 1987, and is reproduced, as a full page, in the published catalogue of that exhibition.

This important work on paper is fully catalogue and referenced with a full page reproduction in the catalogue raisonne entitled "Alex Katz: The Complete Prints" by Nicholas P. Maravell, 1983. (also reproduced as a full page plate).
