German-born photographer Abe Frajndlich (born 1946) emigrated to America aged 10 and in 1970, following a seminar with prominent photographer Minor White, began to devote himself to photography. Frajndlich followed White to Boston and their close friendship culminated in a series of portraits of White [see Frajndlich’s book, “Lives I’ve Never Lived”]. Since then Frajndlich has taken a number of other well-known photographers away from behind their lenses and placed them in front of his own, including Cindy Sherman, Candida Höfer, Annie Leibovitz and Thomas Struth.
