Born in Dublin, Ireland, of Irish parents, Albert le Brocquy and Sybil le Brocquy, née Staunton.

Educated at St. Gerard's School, County Wicklow.

Family friendly with W.B. Yeats and family.

Studied chemistry at Trinity College, Dublin.

Worked in family business, Greenmount Oil Company.

Frequent visits to National and Municipal Galleries.

Left Ireland. Self taught, studied art at National Gallery, London, at the Louvre in Paris and the Prado Collection on loan to Geneva, Switzerland.

First marriage to Jean Stoney.

Settled in Menton, France.

1939
Studied Venetian painting in Venice, Italy.

Birth of daughter Seyre.

1940
Returned to Ireland.
1941
Frequent visits to Jack B. Yeats' studio.
Separation from Jean Stoney - divorce 1948.
1943

Attended Erwin Schrödinger's lectures on genetics at T.C.D. Befriended by Schrödinger and much impressed by his philosophical ideas.

Met the art dealer Charles Gimpel.

Left Ireland for London, England.

Improvised studio in a bed-sitter in York Street, off Baker Street, Marylebone.

Studio in Holly Hill, Hamstead, London (converted garage).

Met Francis Bacon forming a lifelong friendship. Their continued isolation as figurative painters in an abstract art world strengthened their interest in each other's work.

Met the young painter, Anne Madden.

Married Irish painter Anne Madden.

Left London to work in France. Studio in Bargemon in the Var, France.
