Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, to Miguel Angel Bernal Reyes and Hermes Muñoz Lopez, the first of three children.

Marries Estela Pascual; two children are born in 1950 and one in 1954.
1961
School of the Plastic Arts: Leopoldo Romañach, Cuba, MFA.
Bay of Pigs Invasion, Cuba. Arrested for unpatriotic behavior.
1962
Exiled - with wife and children - in the United States of America.
1970
School of the Art Institute, Chicago, Illinois, MFA Evaluation.
Northeastern University, Chicago, Illinois.
1971-1993
High School Art Teacher/Chairman of Art Departments of Von Steuben and Steinmetz (1980s-1990s), Chicago Public Schools, Chicago, Illinois.
1980
Becomes a Naturalized U.S.A. citizen.
1993-2009
Diagnosed with Parkinson disease.
Retires from teaching art.
Indefatigably works on his art while continuing to reside in the U.S.A.
2010
Despite estimable determination to resist Parkinson's, the ravishes of the disease make it impossible to produce art. José Bernal oversees the archiving of his oeuvre.

Died, April 19, 2010 in Skokie, Illinois.
