Biography
1880
Born on April 11 near North Manchester, Indiana, son of Daniel Garber (1828-1911) and Elizabeth Blickenstaff (Mrs. Samuel C.) Shively (1838-82).
1897
Summer, enrolls at Art Academy of Cincinnati, Ohio, attends for two years.
1899
First documented exhibition including Garber's work, the Sixth Annual Exhibition of American Art, held at the Cincinnati Art Museum, Ohio.
1900-1905
Attends Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with exception of the 1903-1904 academic year. Also works as commercial artist.
1909-1950
Teaches at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
1911
Awarded Potter Palmer Gold Medal and $1000.
1913
Elected Academician of the National Academy of Design, New York.
1921
Awarded First William A. Clark Prize of $2000 and Corcoran Gold Medal.
1947
Elected member of the American Institute of Arts and Letters, New York.
1958
Died on July 5 in Cuttalossa, Lumberville, Pennsylvania.
