Most frequently asked questions about the artnet Market Alert

 Show all answers

1. What is the artnet Market Alert?

The Market Alert is a subscription-based email notification system, announcing when new artworks by chosen artists are offered for sale on artnet Auctions, in auction houses worldwide, or in artnet Galleries. The emails are sent every morning (EST), listing all new artworks published on artnet, which meet your preferences and filters. This means that as soon as artnet receives upcoming auction lot information from an auction house and lists it online, you will be personally notified by email instead of having to check the “Upcoming Auctions” and “Recent Auction Results” pages on artnet Auctions or artnet Galleries. With artnet Market Alert, you receive customized information directly.

The email notifications also include upcoming art events and auctions published on the artnet Calendar, which match your preferences.

For all levels of subscriptions–Market Alert 30 and Market Alert 50, both detailed in the next questions—you can also choose to receive additional alerts of recent auction results for the artists you follow, sent in separate, dedicated emails. For more details on how this feature works, please see question 4: “What is the feature “Auction Results Alerts,” and how do I subscribe to it?”

2. What are the differences between Market Alert 30 and Market Alert 50?

The difference between both subscription levels is the maximum number of artists you can track, and the monthly fee charged for it:
Market Alert 30 allows you to receive notification on up to 30 artists for US$19.50 per month.
Market Alert 50 allows you to receive notification on up to 50 artists for US$29.50 per month.

Both subscriptions allow you to receive email alerts whenever a new artwork by one of the artists you selected comes up for sale on artnet Auctions, in auction houses worldwide, or in artnet Galleries.
For each artist you have the option to track all artworks or only a particular medium, such as paintings or prints.
You can narrow your preferences by indicating the artwork sizes and estimate price ranges you want to follow.
You are notified whenever a new upcoming event (auction or gallery exhibition) is published on the artnet Calendar. You can narrow your event preferences by category (such as American Art or Contemporary Art), by country, or by gallery or auction house.
You may change the artists and the selected media as often as you like for no extra charge.
You may add the feature “Auction Results Alerts” to either subscription level. See question 4 for more details on this feature.

Both subscriptions automatically renew every month unless canceled. You can cancel your subscription any time.

3. How do I subscribe to the Market Alert?

You can subscribe to Market Alert 30 or to Market Alert 50 from the Market Alert product page.

Product Page: Select a Type of Subscription: Market Alert 30 or Market Alert 50
On the Market Alert product page you will see the product description and pricing for all subscriptions. Choose the subscription you would like to purchase. Click on “Subscribe Now” to proceed with the purchase.

On the Market Alert product page you can also add a feature to your main subscription to receive recent auction results for the artists you follow. To do so, check the box “Add Auction Results Alerts” before hitting “Subscribe Now.” See question 4 for more details about this feature.
    Step 2: Review Your Order
This step will help you review the services you have requested to purchase. If you wish to remove a subscription, simply click the appropriate box in the Remove column and click the orange Update Cart button. If you wish to make further purchases, select the desired service from the beige “Add Another Service” box. When you have reviewed your final selection, please click the orange Next button.

On step 2 you can also add a feature to your main subscription to receive recent auction results for the artists you follow. To do so, click on “Add Auction Results Alerts”: this will add the feature to your cart. See question 4 for more details about this feature.
Step 3: Enter your Billing Information
The third step of the registration process will ask for your billing information. Any field marked with a star is required to continue the process. Please enter a valid email address so that we can contact you in the event that your credit card expires. This address will be where all Market Alert messages are sent.
The Username and Password must be a minimum of four characters. The Password hint will be given to you in the future if you forget your password. Please be sure that your username, password and password hint are all different, or you will not be able to continue.
You must also confirm that you have reviewed and that you accept artnet’s Terms and Conditions.
Click Next at the bottom of the page to go on to the next step. If you wish to cancel the transaction, please click the “Cancel This Sign Up” button. If you have missed a required field, or have entered a username that is already in use, you will be asked to fix the fields highlighted in yellow before you continue on to the next step.
Step 4: Review and Complete your Order
On this page you will see a summary of the service(s) that you selected and the billing information that you entered. Please review carefully. If any information is inaccurate or missing, click the Edit Info button to go back to the billing page and then edit changes. If everything looks correct, please hit the Purchase button at the bottom to charge your credit card and finalize your order.
    Step 5: Print receipt
Once you have purchased your order you will be taken to a confirmation page that you can print for your records and an email will be sent to verify your first monthly charge. Click Continue to go to your Member Services Home and begin using your new subscription.

If you already have a Market Alert subscription and wish to purchase another one with the same username and password, make sure you log in first, and then go to the Market Alert product page. Select the type of subscription you would like to add, and click “Purchase Now.” This will take you through a similar sign-up process without requiring you to create a new username and password.

4. What is the feature “Auction Results Alerts,” and how do I subscribe to it?

Subscribing to this feature allows you to receive alerts by email whenever new auction results for artists you follow are published on artnet. These notifications cover sold prices at artnet Auctions as well as in leading international auction houses published in the artnet Price Database. The information will be sent to you in a separate, dedicated email.

If you already have a Market Alert subscription and would like to add Auction Results Alerts to your current subscription, select “Subscribe” on your Member Services page
You can also add results to your current Market Alert subscription from the Market Alert Product Page by clicking “Add Results Now.”

If you do not currently have a Market Alert subscription, go to the Market Alert product page, and check the box “Add Auction Results Alerts” before hitting “Subscribe Now.” On Step 2 of the purchasing process, you will also have the option to add Auction Results Alerts to your cart.

Please note that “Auction Results Alerts” is an optional feature available only to Market Alert 30 or Market Alert 50 subscribers. But if you are interested in auction results only, you can subscribe to the artnet Price Database Fine Art and Design.

The feature “Auction Results Alerts” carries an additional monthly fee of US$14.50, and renews automatically with your main Market Alert subscription, unless canceled. You can cancel this feature any time.

Prorated billing: If you enable this feature on a different day of the month than when your main Market Alert subscription renews, you will only be charged a prorated amount until your main subscription renews. At that time your credit card will be charged for both the subscription and the feature on the same date. See question 20 to know more about how to cancel this feature.

Please also see artnet Terms and Conditions for more details.

5. How do I add artists to follow in my Market Alert?

To add artists to your Market Alert, go to your Member Services Page and click on “Add/Remove Artists” under your current active Market Alert subscription.

On the “Add Artists” tab, you will be able to select the artists you want to follow. You will then be notified when an artwork by these artists is published on artnet.

To select an artist, enter at least three characters in the artist search field and then select the artist’s name auto-suggested in the drop-down list that appears.

For each artist, you can select one or more media to narrow your preferences. Hit “Add Artist” to complete.

On the other tabs, you may edit your filters, and view or remove artists from your Market Alert. Removing an artist means that you will not be notified anymore about artworks by this artist published on artnet.

Please note: Information will be emailed on a daily basis, but you will only receive emails when artworks matching your preferences are published. You may update the artists followed and filters as often as you like without extra charges from your Member Services page.

6. What type of information will I not find in my alerts?

In Market Alert emails you will see the same information that is listed on the artnet website as soon as it is published: artworks offered on artnet Auctions, in artnet Galleries, and in the artnet Price Database Fine Art and Design.

Please note that the artnet Price Database excludes artworks that fail to meet basic attribution and price criteria for auction records. For more details, please visit the Price Database Fine Art and Design FAQ page.

In the same Market Alert email you will also receive notifications about upcoming exhibitions at galleries and sales in auction houses worldwide.

If you subscribe to the feature “Auction Results Alerts,” you will receive a separate, dedicated email with recent auction results for artists you follow, whenever these results are published on artnet. These auction results are directly extracted from the Price Database Fine Art and Design. The artnet team publishes results as soon as they are made available by the auction houses, and is therefore not responsible if some auction results are not available, or published with a delay.

7. What if I cannot find the name of an artist I am looking for?

This probably means this artist is not in the artnet Price Database Fine Art and Design yet because he/she has not had any artwork come up at auction or for sale at artnet Galleries.

If you have questions, please call artnet customer service at +1-212-497-9700, option 4 or email us.

8. What if I only want to try the Market Alert for one month?

If you would like to try the Market Alert subscription for one month only, you must cancel the service before the renewal date listed on your Member Services page. IIf you cancel before the renewal date, your service will remain active until the renewal date, at which time your subscription will not be renewed.

Similarly, if you want to add the feature “Auction Results Alerts” to your Market Alert subscription for one month only, you must cancel the feature before the renewal date listed on your Member Services page. If you cancel before the renewal date, the feature will remain active until the renewal date, at which time it will not be renewed.

9. If I only want to follow one or two artists, only auction results, or upcoming events, do I still need to pay the full price subscription fee?

There are only two subscription levels for artnet Market Alert:
    - Market Alert 30 with up to 30 artists
    - Market Alert 50 with up to 50 artists

If you only want to be notified about upcoming art events, you need to subscribe to one of the two above listed levels of subscriptions.

If you only want to be notified about recent auction results, you also need to subscribe to one of the two above listed levels of subscriptions as the feature “Auction Results Alerts” is only available to Market Alert 30 and Market Alert 50 subscribers.

10. If I accidentally choose more than the maximum number of artists, will I be charged extra?

No. When the maximum number of artists has been selected, the screen will not allow you to choose any more, so you will never be charged more than the monthly fee for each Market Alert account.

11. What if I want to follow more artists?

If you currently subscribe to artnet Market Alert, you can upgrade to Market Alert 50, which allows you to follow up to fifty artists instead of thirty.
If you want to follow more than fifty artists, you can subscribe to multiple Market Alerts with the same username and password.

For example, if you want to follow 80 artists, you can subscribe to one Market Alert 30 and one Market Alert 50.
If you want to follow 100 artists, you can subscribe to two Market Alert 50 subscriptions.

See question 12. “Can I subscribe to more than one Market Alert with the same username?” for more details.

12. Can I subscribe to more than one Market Alert with the same username?

    Yes.

If you already have a Market Alert subscription and wish to purchase another one with the same username and password, log in first with your current username and password, and go to the Market Alert product page. You can also log in from the product page.

Select the type of subscription you would like to add, and click “Purchase Now.” This will take you through the sign-up process without requiring you to create a new username and password.

You can also contact artnet customer service at +1-212-497-9700 option 4, or email us.

What time and date does your computer’s clock currently show? If the time or date is incorrect artnet will not be able to log you in for security reasons.

Please follow this guide to show you how to turn these settings on.

15. I logged into my artnet account, but my Market Alert account is no longer listed under “Your
Subscribed Services.” Where did it go?

If there was a problem with your credit card (e.g. it expired, you were over your credit limit, etc.)
and we were unable to renew your service, it will automatically be removed from your list of subscribed
services after the normal renew date. To restore service, you must re-subscribe to the Market Alert. If
your card is about to expire, a warning email will be automatically sent to notify you.

16. My subscription is currently active, but I’m not receiving any Market Alert emails. Why?

Some email programs have very strict rules for accepting emails to the Inbox, and you may need
to add artnet’s email address to your “Contacts” list so that your email does not think your
Market Alert emails are Junk Mail. Add the address Send Email to your
    Contact list.

17. How does artnet determine my billing currency?

Your credit card is charged in the currency of the country listed in your billing address:

    - Euro (EUR - €) if your billing address is in the eurozone
    - British pound (GBP - £) if your billing address is in the United Kingdom
    - United States dollar (USD - $) if your billing address is in the USA and other countries not otherwise defined

To modify the currency, you must have a valid credit card and corresponding billing address.

Beneath each service you will see a red “Cancel” button. Click “Cancel,” and you will see a pop-up window that asks, “Are you sure you want to cancel this service?” Click “OK.” On the Member Services page, you will now see “Subscription Status: Set to be Canceled,” with the phrase “Subscription Cancels: mm/dd/yyyy.”

Note: Canceling the main artnet Market Alert 30 or 50 subscription(s) will automatically cancel the “Auction Results Alerts” feature attached to these subscriptions, as Auction Results Alerts are not available without the main Market Alert subscriptions.

21. What is artnet’s refund policy?

Refunds are only issued within three months of the charge date. Charges older than three months
are considered indisputable. The maximum refund, regardless of reason, is three months worth of
    a subscription.

Refunds are granted in the instance that:

    1. artnet has erroneously charged a client.
    2. A client has requested cancellation by phone or email and it has been recorded in artnet’s
Phone Records but the account was not cancelled.

    Refunds are not issued when:

    2. A client is unhappy with the quality of the service, information in the database, or timing of
    the market alerts.
