"Had a call from a gentleman I didn't know from a northern suburb here. He'd been on our site on artnet and was interested in viewing American Impressionist pictures, and, more specifically, one he could hang over his fireplace.

I assembled six "likely suspects" and had our director here deliver them to his home for viewing. Unhappily, all six came back to the gallery.

I must confess I was more than a little disappointed, but, two days later, this same gentleman called and inquired about the Potthast which was one of the suite. He ended up paying $300,000 for the painting, but what really buoyed me was that he bought three more paintings subsequently to the tune of $600,000...all within a period of 2 l/2 weeks.

I've long had great results on artnet, but this is our biggest "hit" to date. It's building." R.H. Love Galleries, Inc., Chicago, Illinois
