What features does the artnet Auctions section have?
The Auctions section of the artnet iPhone App allows you to browse live auctions, bid on the go, view your messages, and contact your Buyer or Seller to arrange details like payment and shipping.

Are the live auctions in the artnet iPhone App exactly what I see on the artnet Auctions website?
Yes, all live auctions in the Auctions section of the artnet iPhone App are exactly the same artworks as on the artnet Auctions website.
Any new auctions or changes you make to your account on the artnet Auctions website, such as adding a lot to your favorites, will only take 5 minutes to appear in the Auctions section of the artnet iPhone App.
After I've downloaded the free artnet iPhone App, is there a fee to get started with the Auctions section?
No, there is no fee to register as a Buyer or to apply as a Seller, but registration is required to bid and use some functionalities of the artnet Auctions section.
In order for artnet to provide assurance to our Sellers, you will be required to enter a credit card at the time of your registration.

How do I register to bid on artworks using the artnet iPhone App?
To register as Buyer, please enter the Auctions section of the artnet iPhone App, select "log in" from the bottom navigation bar and click on the link "If you are interested in becoming an auctions Buyer or Seller, please click here" at the bottom of the login page. Use this page to create a username and password. The account you register will also work on the artnet Auctions website.
If you have already registered on the artnet Auctions website, this registration will work on the artnet iPhone App. Simply log in by accessing the "log in" from the bottom navigation bar of the artnet Auctions section.
Who are artnet Auctions Sellers?
Every artnet Auctions Seller has been approved by artnet after a thorough review. Many artnet Auctions Sellers are gallerists and dealers with whom artnet already enjoys a business relationship and many are located worldwide. artnet goal is to create a marketplace for the secure buying and selling of works of art, and the company is careful to admit only trustworthy Sellers.

How do I sign up as an Seller using the artnet iPhone App?
To register as a Seller, please enter the Auctions section of the artnet iPhone App, select "log in" from the bottom navigation bar and click on the link "If you are interested in becoming an auctions Buyer or Seller, please click here" at the bottom of the login page to begin the Seller registration process. The account you register will also work on the artnet Auctions website.
If you are already registered on the artnet Auctions website, this registration will work in the artnet iPhone App. Simply log in by accessing the "log in" from the bottom navigation bar.
Why is my credit card being declined during registration?
Credit card validation is done by a third-party service. Occasionally credit cards are declined by the card issuer. In this case please try another card or call your credit card issuer.
How do I use the Messaging Center?
After you have logged in to artnet Auctions section, click "my auctions" at the bottom of any page in the App, then the "Messages" button to access your Messaging Center. From this page, you may read, respond to or compose messages.

Browsing and Searching
How do I search artworks in the artnet Auctions section?
To search artnet Auctions using the Auctions section of the artnet iPhone App, simply click "search" at the bottom of any page in the artnet Auctions section. Enter your search criteria and click the "search" button.
You can also use the sorting buttons at the top of the browse all artworks page. Click the "Show: All Artworks" button to select a specific media. Click the "Sort: Ending Soonest" button to select a sorting option.
The grid view allows you to see many works at once or a detailed view to see more about one lot.
How do I search for live auctions?
To navigate to live auctions tap the "auctions" button at the bottom of any page of the artnet Auctions section to see all artworks. You can refine these results using the "Show" and "Sort" buttons at the top of the auctions page. Tap the "Show" button to select categories of artworks such as Photography or Lots Sold. Tap the "Sort" button to select the order the live auctions appear.
To search for a specific auction or artist, tap the "search" button in the bottom of any page in the artnet Auctions section.
Enter Artist, Title or other items and tap the orange "Search" button.
You'll see the top search results displayed. Simply scroll through the results to see the matching live auctions.
How do I view Lot Details?
Tap on the desired artwork to view the lot then click the "Lot Details" button to see additional information about the artwork such as a Condition Report, History and Provenance, Shipping Information, or Payment & Return Policies.
To see a larger image and/or other available product images, tap on the artwork image. You can also swipe the image to the side or tap one of the small dots under the image.
How do I browse by category or by other search options?
Please click either of the search options in the left navigation on the homepage:

How do I sort lots currently live?
Click "auctions" at the bottom of any page of the artnet Auctions section. You can use the sorting buttons at the top of the browse all artworks page. Click the "Sort: Ending Soonest" to change the sorting of lots to options Newly Listed, Lowest High Bid First, or Highest High Bid First.
How do I browse or search by artist?
Please click Search by Artist in the top navigation and select an artist name from the list.
Additionally, click Advanced Search in the top navigation and then begin typing the name of the artist into the appropriate field. The system will suggest matches. Select the name you want and click “Search.”
Bidding and Buying
How do I know what an item is worth?
Valuation is by its nature subjective. To provide guidance, artnet has supplied helpful information on the lot detail page on the website when available, including the artist's past sales results.
How do I bid?
Bidding is secure and easy. On the bidding page, click the "Place Bid" button. This will open a form into which you can enter your bid amount. Once you confirm your bid, your bid will be placed. In order to bid you must first register as a Buyer on the artnet Auctions website.
How does the SmartBid service work?
When you bid on an auction, you are asked to provide your maximum bid. This is the
amount that you are willing to pay for the lot. The artnet SmartBid service automatically
bids on your behalf, as needed, up to your maximum bid. This includes bidding on
your behalf to meet the reserve price when placing the first bid on an auction lot.
The SmartBid service will never raise your bid above the reserve price unless there
are competing bids on the lot. Please find the SmartBid service bidding increments

How does reserve work with the artnet SmartBid service?
If there are no competing bids, the artnet SmartBid service will bid on your behalf up to the reserve price of a lot upon bid placement if your bid amount at least meets the reserve.
Can I cancel or retract my bid?
All bids are binding and a bid cannot be cancelled or retracted. Mistakes can occur in which case you must contact artnet Auctions Client Services by

Reasons for possible bid retraction or cancellation include entering the incorrect bid amount (For example: $10,000 instead of $1,000) or the lot's description changed significantly after placing your bid.
How do I view the auctions I'm currently bidding on?
After logging in to your account in artnet Auctions section, click "my auctions" from the bottom of any page, and then click "Buying", then "Active Bids."
How do I see what lots I did and didn't win?
Select "my auctions" on the bottom of any page in the artnet Auctions section and click "Buying," then select "Items Won" Or "Items Not Won."
How do I add an item to My Favorites?
On the bidding page, click "Add to Favorites." To see the lots you are watching, select your "my auctions" page on the bottom of any page in the artnet Auctions section. Then click the "My Favorites" button.
I have a question about an auction lot, what do I do?

What are the shipping policies?
Every Seller is required to post detailed shipping information for his or her lots. This includes the location from which the item will ship. Typically, buyers are responsible for paying all shipping and insurance costs, which in turn may depend on the distance the artwork will travel.
If you have questions about shipping, please click "Ask Specialist a Question" before bidding. One of our specialists will provide you with more detailed information about shipment.
Why did the auction end after its original close time?
An auction is extended when a bid is made 10 minutes before the auction ends. The auction closing will be postponed for 10 minutes and may be the case several times until a one minute period has lapsed without bidding. When an auction is extended, bidders are notified via email.
As the winning bidder, how can I pay for an item I've won?
After the close of an auction, you will receive an automated email from firstname.lastname@example.org if you are the winning bidder. Within that email, there will be a link to log in to your artnet Auctions account and begin the post sale process.
On your "Items Won" page, you will be prompted to enter your location as well as any applicable tax information, such as a resale certificate or VAT number. Based on this information, the seller will then send you the total cost, which includes the hammer or purchase now price plus any applicable tax. In addition, they will send you payment instructions based on their preferred payment methods.
Once you confirm that payment has been sent, you will have access to the "Shipping Tools" page. On this page, you may request quotes from professional art shippers with whom we have partnered. You may also make shipping arrangements with an alternate shipper of your choice. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay the shipper directly for all shipping and insurance costs.
Is there a fee to buy?
artnet collects a 20% buyer's premium on all lots with a winning bid or purchase now price under US$250,000 and a 10% buyer's premium on all lots with a winning bid or purchase now price of US$250,000 and above.
What is the buyer's premium? How am I charged for this?
This is a commission that the buyer pays on all winning transactions. artnet collects a 20% buyer's premium on all lots with a winning bid or purchase now price under US$250,000 and a 10% buyer's premium on all lots with a winning bid or purchase now price of US$250,000 and above. If you are the winning bidder, your credit card on file with artnet will be charged with the buyer's premium when the auction closes.
If the charges are declined, artnet will contact you via email. Please make sure your email address is accurate, as it is the primary communication channel used by the artnet Auctions team.

How do I list an item for auction as a Seller?
What does "Relist" mean?
If a lot does not sell at auction, you may have the opportunity to list the item again. Please contact the Specialist working on the lot for further information.
How do I delete a listing?
You cannot delete a live auction. If you need to stop a live auction, you must contact us via
email or call us at +1-877-388-3256 in the US or +49 (0)30 20 91 78 50 in Germany.
My auction lot sold, how do I contact the Buyer?
After the close of an auction, you will receive an automated email from email@example.com, whether or not the auction lot has sold.
It is the buyer's responsibility to submit initial details that will enable you to calculate any applicable tax. You will receive an email alert, which will contain a link to your artnet Auctions account. You will then be asked to use the information that the buyer has submitted to send them the total cost. At this time, payment instructions specified in your account will automatically be sent to the buyer. To update these preferences at any time, please go to Billing Information.
Once the buyer has sent payment, it is their responsibility to arrange shipping. The shipper of their choice should contact you directly to confirm pickup.
How do I view my sold, unsold, unfinished, submitted, or live lots?
If you are an artnet Auctions Seller, select your "my auctions" page from the bottom of any page in the artnet Auctions section and click the "Selling" button.
Is there a fee to sell?
artnet collects a seller's commission fee based on the hammer or purchase now price of the lot:

All lots with a reserve price under US$10,000 are subject to a US$150 listing fee.
As a Seller, how do I pay my artnet fees?
Most Sellers pay their Seller's listing fees and commissions automatically through the credit card on file for their account. Typically, this credit card is provided at the time of registration. artnet Auctions will invoice you bi-monthly via email for the listing fees and commissions from 1st to 15th and from the 16th to the end of the month. Your credit card will be charged on the 25th and 10th (of the following month), respectively.
Should you not list or sell any works of art on artnet Auctions for a given billing cycle, you will not receive an invoice and you will not be charged.
Account and Billing Information
I do not receive emails from artnet Auctions, what do I do?
Some of artnet Auctions emails to you are automatically generated and will arrive from the email address firstname.lastname@example.org. Some examples of these emails are bid confirmations, outbid notifications, sold lot notifications, and unsold lot notifications. With today's anti-spam filters, sometimes these legitimate emails don't get through. Check your junk mail or spam folder and/or add email@example.com to your list of contacts.
Alternatively, please check the email address registered to your account and make any appropriate changes should they be necessary.
I forgot my login name and/or password. What do I do?
If you forgot your password, you may click the "Forgot your artnet Auctions password? Click here." link on the login page of the artnet Auctions section. A new password will be generated and an email will be sent to you. To change your automatically generated password, please see below.

What steps can I take to protect myself when buying on the artnet Auctions section?
