When it comes to contemporary art, itís not surprising that Los Angeles and Berlin are proving to be a good match. Javier Peres, director of Peres Projects in Los Angeles, opened a sister space in Berlin a little less than a year ago. A former entertainment lawyer who specialized in refugee cases involving gay asylum-seekers, Peres launched his gallery in San Francisco in 2002, moving to L.A. nine months later, where it became one of the city's foremost spaces for emerging artists. The idea of bringing his glittering roster to the German capital's breezy, booming art scene was a natural.
