Socialites and celebrities go crazy for the New York Academy of Art’s annual Tribeca Ball, held this year on Monday night, Apr. 4, 2011, at the academy’s Tribeca headquarters at 111 Franklin Street.
The glamour is intense, especially for an art school devoted to the decidedly unhip arts of actually learning to paint and sculpt. Andy Warhol was a big supporter, which you could say proved that he was a square at heart.
Among the bold-faced names seated at the very table of your humble scribe were interior designer Jay Johnson, actress Leelee Sobieski and Matthew Settle, a star of the television show Gossip Girl. The charming Settle, who said he hadn’t yet started his art collection, almost missed dinner for spending too long visiting the NYAA’s four floors of artist studios.
He also revealed that photographer Laurie Simmons has a cameo on an upcoming episode. Mark your calendars; it’s Apr. 18, 2011.
