Liste 2012

If New York's indie alternative to the Armory Show each March is the Independent art fair in Chelsea, then Liste, "the young art fair in Basel," June 12-17, 2012, is Switzerland's answer to Art Basel. Typically devoted to galleries in business only five years or less, Liste this year hosts 64 galleries from 22 countries, which set up in the sprawling Wartek Brewery a block from the Rhine.

Participants hail from China (2P Contemporary in Hong Kong and Platform from Beijing), Copenhagen (Christian Andersen), Istanbul (Rodeo), Malmo (Elastic and Johan Berggren), Mexico City (Gaga and Labor), Poznan (Stereo) and the good old U.S.A. (Altman Siegel, Bureau, Laurel Gitlen, Overduin and Kite, Renwick, Simone Subal and Wallspace).

Scope and Volta, which also satellite the Armory Show, have annual outposts near Art Basel as well. But for a glimpse inside what's possibly the favorite -- or at least the most fashionable -- sideshow, here's a tour of some highlights.
